Happy 2013!
A shorter, one minute version, of the movie I made with ActionAid and SWE was shown on Swedish TV in the week leading up to christmas.
2012 has almost come to an end. It's been a pretty strange and confusing year for me with lots of changes. It's been a good year though and I've got high hopes for 2013 to be even better.
Happy new year everyone!

Georges
I had an illustration in the latest issue of Georges, a lovely french kids magazine. It's a fake ad and the text roughly translates as "When you're looking for a good idea against blisters, with Pansemampoule you've got it!" In french the word for blister is the same as the word for light bulb.

Let's Fika! Private View (better late then never)
I havn't had any internet connection at home for the past two weeks so I haven't had the chance to blog about my wonderful London trip and the Let's Fika Private view. We were all having to much fun to remember to take photos (once my friends arrived that I hadn't seen for two months I sort of forgot about anything else) At least Åsa was focused enough to take a few shots of the evening:
Artists from top to bottom: Karin Söderquist, Hanna Melin, Danijela Dobric, Åsa Wikman, Martin Wollerstan and Emma Löfström.
The show is on 'til October the 14th at Fika so you can still catch it if your in London!

Let's Fika! exhibition
Me and some friends are putting on an illustration exhibition at Fika on 161 Brick lane in a couple of weeks. It's a visual celebration of the tradition of Fika, featuring the work of 6 Swedish illustrators; Hanna Melin, Emma Löfström, Danijela Dobric, Åsa Wikman, Martin Wollerstam and me.
The exhibition shows our different interpretations of what fika means. It's also about Sweden being Swedish; the smell of your grandmother freshly bakes cinnamon buns, long light summer nights, summer vacations that never ends and going swimming in cool black lakes.
The private view is on the 13th of September between 4-6.30pm, if you want to come along please RSVP with the subject line Let's Fika to wikmanillustration(a)gmail.c

Raymond Savignac
Right now I'm working on a commission where I was asked to have a look at the french illustrator Raymond Savignac for inspiration. I'd never heard of him before but I really like his work so I thought I'd share it with you.

Brown Paper Bag
My works been featured on a lot of blogs recently (which is kind of weird as I haven't been spending nearly as much time on it this past month as I used to, it might have something to do with Mallory putting my Skate Grrrls image on Illustrated Ladies) This time it's Brown Paper Bag saying nice things about me. Thanks!

The Le Sigh Feature
The Le Sigh is a blog run by three girls living together in one Brooklyn flat. The editor-in-Chief, Diana Cirullo, got in touch with me about featuring my work in something that they call Girl Spotlight. She sent me a couple of questions and it all resultet in this really nice feature on the blog. You can read it here: http://www.thelesigh.com/2012/07/girl-spotlight-karin-soderquist.html#more

The Best of Torbjörn's Bookshelf
The first two months in Stockholm me and my boyfriend are staying in a flat that we're borrowing from a relative of mine. It's in a beautiful part of town, close to the water and 2 minutes from the park. It's got high ceilings, paintings on the walls and a bookshelf filled with old books and records. I was having a look and I found some books with really good looking covers. Here's my favourites from the collection:
The last one is probably more funny than good but there's still something about the composition that I like.

Places I've lived in London
These are the places I lived during my almost 4 years in London. I don't miss the flats themselves but I'm starting to miss how easy it is to find somewhere to live in London. The standard is usually a bit shit but at least you can find somewhere to rent when you need to. And I really miss having my own flat with my own work space. Finding somewhere to live in Stockholm is a bloody nightmare!

Raymond Peynet
My mum gave me these cute salt and pepper shakers that she'd found in the rubbish at work. After doing some google research I found out that they where designed by the french illustrator Raymond Peynet for Rosenthal in the 60's. They're apparently a bit of a collectors item. I can't believe someone just threw them away!

A New Career In A New Town
In the beginning of July I relocated from London to Stockholm. I grew up in Sweden and even though I've visited many times, I've never lived in Stockholm before. It's great to get to discover a new city. Me and my boyfriend are borrowing a flat from a relative until we can find a place of our own and it's located in a beautiful part of town. The weather has been amazing and sunny since we arrived (a nice change after nearly 4 years in rainy London) and we've spent a lot of time in a near by park where we met a wild bunny. London is great in many was and I'm sure I'll miss it a lot but right now I'm looking forward to starting a new adventure in Stockholm!

Nanae Kawahara's Diary
This is me and Nanae Kawahara having tea in one of her daily diary drawings, great isn't it? Nanae is a very talanted illustrator who I had the pleasure of hanging out with a couple of times with in London. I went and had a look at her DOOOOOGS !! exhibition at The Haberdashery cafe and it resulted in this drawing. You can see more of her amazing work here!
